Poco Voce

Preschool - Grade 2

The Katy Youth Choir provides high-quality vocal education and choral music instruction in a fun environment tailored the needs of "Little Voices."

The Poco Voce choral program comprises of voices from preschool through 2nd grade. This hands-on choral program focuses on teaching the basics of vocal and choral pedagogy in a safe and uplifting environment. Choristers with different musical backgrounds are welcome and are taught how to work together to create a unified sound. Through the use of solfege, rhythmic exercises, and movement choristers are able to learn choral concepts. The Poco Voce program is considered an introductory choral program where the goal is to help the choristers learn to find their voices in a positive setting while preparing them to sing in our more advanced choral programs.

Rehearsals are held once a week. Each semester comprises 13 rehearsals.

Performances for the Poco Voce choral program will include 2 Katy Youth Choir concerts per season and a classroom showcase. The classroom showcase is one of Katy Youth Choir's favorite events where family and friends are invited to join their chorister in rehearsal and see what they have been learning throughout the semester.

Choristers in the Poco Voce choral program are expected to maintain a high standard of discipline, respect and dress at all times. Any disrespect for others will not be tolerated. The Poco Voce choral program is a feeder program for our more advanced Prima Voce choir. This means that behavior, musical ability, work ethic and attitudes are closely monitored so choristers who excel can be invited to sing in the Prima Voce choir.
